Humane Living - Compassion Towards Animals

Everyone has an affect on animals each and every day with our seemingly insignificant decisions:

  • The products that we use
  • The clothing we wear
  • The food that we eat
  • Our entertainment choices
  • Decisions regarding our companion animals

We can have either a positive or negative affect on the lives of animals and the purpose of this section of LiveHumanely.com is to share ways on living more humanely in regards to animals.

Food Choices - For facts related to Factory Farming click here

Most of us have been raised with the belief that we should eat meat.  Many of us eat meat because it’s a tradition, or because that’s just what we’ve always done.  Some of us eat meat because we believe that it is our right “as the top of the food chain”.  Others of us eat meat because we are told that we must eat meat for health reasons.  Still others of us eat meat because in many instances it is the cheapest option or because it is convenient.

Whatever our reasons for meat consumption, it is time to examine our food choices.  The United States comprises 5% of the world’s population, yet Americans eat 25% of the world’s beef.  What began as a way to survive in human history, has become a consumption in excess.  This is obvious in our health problems, destruction of our land, and pollution of our environment.  It is becoming more and more common to hear about and read about this topic of food.  Why?  Because we make food choices three or more times a day.  Our food choices have more of an impact on our bodies, other humans, other species, and our environment, than just about any choices we make.

The purpose of the links below is to introduce you to more information on the impact of food choices, as well as how to make positive, healthy, mutually beneficial, and humane decisions in regards to what you eat.

The reality of today’s farming in regards to the raising of animals for human consumption is drastically different than the images that we are presented with in children’s books, billboards, product packages, and other advertisement.  Why the discrepancy between the message and the truth?  Because if consumers actually knew what they were consuming and supporting with their food choices/purchases, most consumers would choose alternatives.
